We read "Ten Apples Up On Top" and responded

My classroom is in a building that was built in the early 1900's

. We have closet doors that have cork board on each.

 I was so tired of putting paper on them. My daughter and I decided to paint them.

 I think they turned out great! I just hate I had to staple items to them.

These were painted and then the smaller part

is covered with chalkboard paper. Now the space is interactive.

When I first seen this door I fell in love with owls.

I got the idea from  Mrs. Lee's Kindergarten Blog.

Teacher Appreciation Day

Wow so excited I just have to blog about it! I was up early Saturday morning

 and visited  the Junior League Locker where I picked up a set of 24 folders

 and 6 packs of tape for free. The deal of the day was at Office Depot. I got 30 bottles

 of Elmer's glue for 30 cent. There was breakfast and a cute little bag full of free

 school supplies. This was truly a teacher's appreciation day. It kinda makes all

 of the hours I'm spending getting my class back in order , well worth it.

 .Next Saturday  is teacher appreciation day at Staples.

Crate Seats

I finally tried my hand at the crate seats I mentioned in an earlier post. So far so good

I haven't quite decided if I want to put a ribbon on to remove the cushion for 

storage. They seem to be pretty easy to get into as is.Here are the pics of two of them.

I have 3 more to go.

Borders Going Out of Business Sale

Borders  is going out of business and has some very

 great deals. I couldn't resist the educational discounts.  25% off all educational

 materials. I found these really great phonics books for about $4.00

 that I've decided I will use in one of my centers.

It has a dry erase marker for the students to use in the book.

 I thought I will make some 

response sheets for students

 to use so that I can document progress. I bought five and

now I have a phonics center.

Our Classroom and School Community

Our first social studies unit explores the classroom and

 school community. I developed a short packet to narrow down

 the main topics that need to be discussed.

It helps keep me focused but also leaves me open

 to incorporate any new ideas 

and activities discovered.

I'm visiting this site http://www.readingrockets.org/ . It's another great site full of resources. I am especially excited about the literacy calendar.

I know this website http://www.readwritethink.org/ has been
 around for a while,but I was just visiting it and the
 resources were so exciting I felt I just had to blog 

about it! Of course I visited the
 kindergarten section, but there is much,
 much more. There are lots of lesson plans
 and interactive games for students both during
 school and afterwards.

I've been working on my lesson plans for the year. 

This is a template I will be using to record my

 lesson plans for writing. As I am planning I have realized

 that the traditional lesson plan books do no

t work in kindergarten. I also realize just how much 

I am doing(teaching) and its nice to see it documented

. I think I will also make a list of the mini-lessons that

 I will use throughout the year.
